    Dunfermline Golf Club

This club was founded in 1887, and its first course was to the east of the town. Moves to first Ferryhills and then Torrie were followed by the new course at Pitfirrane in 1953. The magnificent Pitfirrane House, for many centuries the home of the Halket family, is a worthy clubhouse. Golf has been played in the Dunfermline are for centuries; King James V1 (and 1) and King Charles 1 were both keen players on the 'Golfdrum', a ridge to the north of the town. One of the earliest members of the club was Robert Lockhart who, with John Reid, introduced golf to the United States; both were from Dunfermline.
