When Leith Links became overcrowded, the clubs moved to the course at Musselburgh. At one time in the middle of the nineteenth century there were four clubs using the same small course - Musselburgh, the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, the Royal Burgess and Bruntsfield. All four had moved to other sites by the end of the 19th century. The famous old course, interwoven with the racecourse, eventually became too short for the Open, which it had hosted six times. At the east end of the course stands "Mrs Foreman's" - well-known meeting house for golfers. |
