Conceived originally as an umbrella club for all Troon Municipal Golf Courses season ticket holders with the active support and encouragement of Provost Charles Summers and the Troon Burgh Council, Troon Welbeck Golf Club was founded in 1974. Though a relatively young club, Troon Welbeck has met its objective of "the encouragement and promotion of the sport of golf in all its branches and provision of social and recreational activities for the members".
The Troon Welbeck Pro-Am which has been held annually since 1982 is regarded as one of the best Pro-Ams on the Tartan Tour by the PGA in Scotland and last year had probably its best field ever with no fewer than four home based European Tour players participating, such has its popularity become.
