    Prestwick Golf Club, Ayrshire
Sand, heather, seaside bent, cavernous bunkers, sloping fairways, the menacing Pow Burn, fast true and undulating greens, delightful views of Arran and - the wind!! Sometimes a zephyr, sometimes half a gale , prevailing mostly from the south west. All the ingredients of a golfing challenge over eighteen holes which grew from the original twelve holes on which the first Open Championship was played.

From the Club tees on a calm summer afternoon, Prestwick may flatter you. On the other hand, a stiff breeze and the Medal tees present an entirely new problems, so that one soon sees how well Prestwick has stood the test of time and the transition from hickory shafts and the gutty ball to todays more powerful equipment.

Apart from the additional tees, the course has remained unchanged for many years. 'Why change it ?' is has been said ' Prestwick can take care of itself.'
