Golf was played on the town links which lies between the mouths of the Rivers Don and Dee, from at least the mid-sixteenth century. The Society of Golfers at Aberdeen was formed in 1780 and it used the town links until 1877; by this time the links was used for so many other activities as well that in 1888 the golfers moved to their own club on the Balgownie links to the north of the Don. |
