Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club, Merseyside

The History

Founded in 1906, S&A as it is affectionately known, is a links course that provides a wonderful test for golfers of all ages and ability.

The original layout was designed by James braid and although the Course has seen ongoing improvements, the traditional links feel has been retained.

The Club has hosted two Ryder Cup matches in 1933 and 1937 plus a host of top Professional and amateur events including the British Ladies Open. The Course is currently used as a final qualifying course when 'The Open' is held at both Royal Birkdale and Royal Lytham.

The Course

There are 18 holes of championship golf all with their own special characteristics. Whether you are playing the testing par 3 first hole or the world famous 16th (known as Gumbleys), the profusion of heather and gorse demands accuracy from tee to green. The quality of the Course has resulted in The Golf Monthly placing it in it's top 50 Golf Courses in Great Britain.

The Club House

The superb facilities include a well stocked bar, where you will be welcomed by the steward and our staff. There is a Gentlemen's Bar, a large mixed lounge plus the Ryder Room with mementoes of the two Ryder Cup matches.

The restaurant is capable of seating 80 people in a relaxed, comfortable environment and there is also a snooker room with two snooker tables.

There are locker room facilities for both Ladies and Gentlemen, plus a well stocked Pro's Shop to cater for all your golfing requirements.

Visitors

From a four-ball to the largest party, all visitors are made extremely welcome and there is a flexible range of golfing packages available.

These can include breakfast, lunch and dinner.
