Brampton Park Golf Club, Cambridgeshire

The Course
This 18 hole par 72 of 6,403 yards is situated in Brampton, near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, 2 minutes from the A1 and A14, opposite Brampton RAF Station.

Dissected by River Lane, with 11 holes to the North and 7 to the South, water is in play on most holes. Added to that, the wooded nature of the course is such that it offers a challenge to golfers of all abilities. It is the home of the PGA East Anglian Open where professionals pit their wits against the challenge of this magnificent course.

The lakes and mature woodlands abound with wildlife, and great care has been taken to preserve as many of the natural features as possible. Indeed, the 16th hole has been named "Badger Alley" due to the abundance of the badger sets lining the fairway on all sides. It is here that one of the largest colonies of badgers in Eastern England reside. Muntjac deer inhabit the woodlands. Canada Geese and swans glide the tranquil waters of the lakes, and an abundance of differing species of bird life can be seen around the course.

In addition to the natural mature woodland of Brampton Park, 3,500 sapling trees have been planted since the course was constructed in 1991.

It is a course that requires the use of every club in the bag. It is a signature hole, the "Infamous 4th" is a par 3 with an island green almost completely surrounded by water. Set to become one of the greatest par 3's in the country, it is sure to stick vividly in the mind of any golfer who plays it.

Another demanding hole is the 14th which features several water hazards, amongst which is an old sluice which has been restored. The River Great Ouse forms the natural boundary of part of the course, and Brampton Brook, with its various tributaries, dissects the course adding further interest. With the liberal use of bunkers, it provides a considerable degree of excitement for the keen golfer.

Alongside the 18th fairway and just a few steps from the clubhouse is a practice ground and net. It is hoped in the future to provide the added facility of a driving range.

The Club
The club itself is relaxed and friendly, although standards of golf etiquette both as to a priority of play, course care and conduct are enforced for the benefit of the members. No distinction is made between male and female members (save as to tees and changing facilities), and indeed husbands and wives teams are very welcome. The fixture list encourages mixed play.

The Clubhouse
The superb clubhouse stands on the southern section of the course by the side of the first tee overlooking the 18th fairway and putting green. The Members Bar is friendly and comfortable, and the first floor restaurant has panoramic views of the course, with a balcony for "alfresco" dining. The restaurant can seat 116 people and converts into a function room with a dance floor and stage, both for club functions and private hire - weddings/parties being a speciality. These facilities can also be hired for conference and training seminars, with all the relevant equipment available including overhead projectors, flipcharts, TV and video. A syndicate room is also available for private meetings.

On the second floor there are guest rooms with en suite facilities for members or their guests. Visiting societies from afar may make use of these superb facilities.

Along with deluxe locker rooms and a fully equipped Professional's shop, the members have ensured that every conceivable facility is available.

Social Activities
Brampton Park are proud to have a very active social side to the club, running alongside and complementing the golfing activities. Regular dinner dances are held with a live band, and gourmet evenings of haute cuisine are held in the Members Bar on a regular basis, all of which it is felt are needed to ensure that members get to know one another off the course as well as on.
